Girl injured in bicycle incident

A six year old girl has been treated by ambulance crews following an incident in Staffordshire today.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Horninglow Street in Burton on Trent shortly before 7.55am this morning.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were dispatched to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found a girl whose ankle had become trapped in the wheel of a bicycle after she had reportedly fallen from it.

“With the assistance of the fire service, the girl was cut free from the spokes of the wheel and treated for a dislocated ankle. The girl was given pain relief at the scene and her ankle was fully immobilised before she was conveyed, via land ambulance, to Queens Hospital in Burton for further assessment and treatment.”
