Fatal road traffic collision in Staffordshire

A man has died after the van he was driving collided with a lorry in Staffordshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called shortly after 2.50pm to the A38 southbound carriageway between the north and south exits for Burton upon Trent

An advanced community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, a senior paramedic officer, an ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Unfortunately nothing could be done to save the van driver and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The lorry driver, a man believed to be in his forties or fifties, had back pain. He was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Burton.

“Due to the investigation into the crash, there have been long delays in the area.”
