Monday 20th January 2014 – 11.30pm – Murray MacGregor.

The driver of a car that crashed in Coventry was left upside down for three quarters of an hour as ambulance staff worked with firefighters to free him.

The crash happened in Walsgrave Road at about 9.15pm on Monday night.

An ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The Trust received no fewer than five calls about the crash. On arrival, ambulance staff found the car on its roof and the driver trapped mechanically inside.

“Working with firefighters they very carefully removed the middle aged man after immobilising him as a precaution.

“Although he was quite disorientated at the scene, thankfully he appeared uninjured. However, as a precaution he was taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire for further assessment.

“He was undoubtedly very fortunate not to have injured himself in the crash.”
