Car on fire on M6

Friday 7th February 2014 – 7.20pm – Chris Kowalik.

A car occupied by an elderly couple has caught fire after colliding with a barrier on the M6.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriageway approaching its junctions with the M6 Toll and the M42 shortly before 5.45pm today.

An ambulance crew and a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Passersby including an off-duty GP stopped to help, pulling an unconscious woman passenger from the car. She was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar as a precaution.

“Her husband who was driving the car, had chest pain and an arm problem. They were both taken in the same ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”

  1. Hope this elderly couple are okay. Me and my 2 friends pulled them away from the burning car and pulls them away from the vehicle…

  2. I also drove past this just after it happened. #StevenWright, well done for managing to get them out, you and your friends are legends – as it the GP who stopped! I have to admit, it spooked me so much at the sight of the fireball (their car) and I am very surprised to hear that they have seemingly survived based upon the wreckage that was there. Thoughts and prayers with them and their family.
