Sunday 4th May 2014 – 3.45pm – Suzie Fothergill.
A man has sadly died during an incident on the M40 today.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a road traffic collision on the southbound carriageway of the motorway, near to junction 12, shortly before 10.25am this morning.
Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and a BASICS doctor were dispatched to the scene. The police and the fire service were also in attendance.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a car that had left the carriageway and had overturned in a ditch.
“The car had been carrying three occupants at the time of the incident. The driver of the car, a man, was immediately assessed by ambulance crews but unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“The front seat passenger, a man believed to be in his 30s, was trapped in the vehicle for a period of time. Ambulance crews worked closely with the fire service to safely extricate the man from the car. Fortunately on assessment the man appeared to have not sustained any obvious injuries.
“The rear seat passenger, a girl believed to be approximately 7 years of age, was out of the vehicle on the crew’s arrival. She was assessed at the scene and was found to be uninjured.
“Due to the nature of the incident the front and rear seat passengers were conveyed to Horton General Hospital for further assessment, as a precaution.”
