A man has been taken to hospital after completing the Great Midlands Fun Run in Sutton Coldfield this afternoon.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Allendale Road, Warmley in Sutton Coldfield at 1.50pm.
An ambulance together with a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews responded to a runner who had completed the course and was apparently driving away from the event when he collapsed at the wheel of his car.
“The patient, believed to be in his fifties, was found to be in cardiac arrest and was initially treated by a police officer who went to his aid. Ambulance crews arrived to continue advanced life support in order to stabilise his condition before he was taken to Good Hope Hospital for further treatment.
“The Great Midlands Fun Run was enjoyed by almost 7,000 competitors today. Medics treated 25 people with just two requiring hospital treatment.”
