The driver of a car which ended up colliding with a telegraph pole before flipping on its side has escaped with just minor injuries in Trentham this evening.

The incident happened at the junction of Jonathan Road and Barlaston Old Road in Trentham shortly before 9.00pm (Saturday). An ambulance and a paramedic area support officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The car had left the road and collided with a telegraph pole before coming to rest on the drivers’ side. When ambulance crews arrived, they found the driver had managed to get out of the car despite it being on its side.

“The driver, a man believed to be in his 20s, was assessed by crews and remarkably found he’d escaped with just a cut to his arm. Due to the mechanism of the crash, the man was taken to University Hospital North Staffordshire as a precaution for further investigation.

“The road remained closed following the collision due to damaged power lines from the telegraph pole being on the road.”
