Woman seriously injured in overturned car

A woman has been seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Coventry this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Oxford Road in Ryton on Dunsmore shortly before 8.45am today.

Two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found two cars that had been involved in a collision. One of the vehicles had left the road and was upside down in a ditch.

“The driver of the overturned car was found to be trapped in the vehicle. Ambulance crews worked closely with the fire service to extricate the woman from the car safely.

“Once freed the woman was treated for serious leg and chest injuries before being conveyed to the major trauma centre at University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire.

“The driver of the second car, a man, was assessed at the scene but was found to be uninjured.”
