A young boy has been airlifted to hospital following an incident in Coventry today.
West Midlands Ambulance Service received a 999 call to a field off Cornets End Lane in Meriden shortly after 12:05pm this afternoon.
An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews were called to reports of a boy who had been kicked by a horse. It is believed that the boy had been knocked unconscious for a short period of time.
“On the crew’s arrival the boy had gained consciousness and was found to have sustained chest and abdominal injuries. Ambulance personnel treated the boy, believed to be approximately 6 years of age, for his injuries and administered pain relief at the scene. The casualty was fully immobilised as a precaution and airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment,”
