Road traffic collision in Shipley

A motorcyclist has been badly injured in a road traffic collision with a lorry.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A454 at Shipley shortly after 8.15pm yesterday (Wednesday).

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, the MERIT trauma team consisting of a trauma doctor and a critical care practitioner, a paramedic area support officer and two ambulance crews attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The motorcyclist, a man in his fifties, had a broken right arm, a broken leg and a suspected fractured pelvis. He was fully immobilised, given pain relief and was flown by the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

“The lorry driver had pain to his bicep. He was taken by land ambulance to Princess Royal Hospital as a precaution.”
