Pedestrian seriously injured

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being in collision with a bus in Coventry this evening.

The incident occurred on Walsgrave Road, outside St Margaret’s Park, at around 8.50pm. An ambulance, a paramedic officer and an off duty member of staff attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a man that had been in collision with a bus and was trapped underneath. He was being cared for by an off duty member of ambulance staff.

“The man, believed to be in his 40’s, suffered serious head, leg and pelvic injuries and received emergency treatment whilst being released from underneath the vehicle with the assistance of the fire service. He was trapped for around 20 minutes.

“The man was transferred by ambulance using blue lights and sirens to University Hospital Major Trauma Unit who were awaiting his arrival.

“Unfortunately, the man’s condition was considered critical.”
