An elderly woman escaped serious injury after her car ended upside down in a brook in Stratford-upon-Avon this afternoon.

The incident happened at the junction of the Evesham Road and Luddington Road at 3.50pm (Thursday). An ambulance and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The car had reportedly gone through the wall of a bridge before landing upside down in a brook. The car was partially submerged when ambulance staff arrived but thankfully the driver and only occupant, a woman in her 70s, was conscious and breathing and was being helped by passers-by.

“The woman was carefully extricated from the car and, upon assessment, appeared to have suffered no apparent injuries. The rescue took around 40 minutes.

“As a precaution, ambulance staff immobilised her with a scoop stretcher and neck collar before she was taken to Warwick Hospital for further checks.”
