A man who collapsed in cardiac arrest in Birmingham City Centre last night was given advanced life support at the scene by ambulance staff and medics.
The incident happened near to the corner of Broad Street and Granville Street, close to Sainsburys Local, at 8.00pm (Saturday). An ambulance, a responder paramedic and medics from the West Midlands Central Accident Resuscitation Emergency (CARE) team attended the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff and medics arrived they found a man who had stopped breathing and was in cardiac arrest.
“They immediately commenced cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man and worked as a team to deliver advanced life support. The man successfully regained a heartbeat and began to breathe once more but was still in a serious condition. Ambulance staff and the CARE team alerted the man to nearby City Hospital and continued emergency treatment en route.”
