Baby dies after car crash

A baby has died following a road traffic collision in Birmingham.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Gibbons Road, Selly Oak at 3.55pm today where a car had collided with a wall and a tree.

Four ambulances and a senior paramedic officer attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The first ambulance crew to arrive immediately took the baby to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, trying to resuscitate the child with CPR en-route. Sadly, the baby was confirmed dead at hospital.

“There were four adults in the car. A woman driver who had a head injury was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

“A woman who was a front seat passenger got herself out of the car with minor injuries and made her own way to a hospital.

“Two other woman, both rear seat passengers were both immobilised and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. One had a head injury, a back injury and a minor chest injury. The other had back pain.”
