Friday 29th May 2015 – 6.00pm – Jamie Arrowsmith.
A woman has been airlifted and a second was left trapped upside down for 20 minutes following a serious two-car road traffic collision in Rugby this afternoon.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A4071 near Cawston shortly before 3.15pm and sent two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, a community paramedic and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to the scene. The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance car, with two critical care paramedics on board, also attended.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Upon arrival, crews found a car that had come to rest on its roof following a two car collision and discovered two women inside.
“Ambulance staff worked with the fire service to release them from the wreckage.
“One of the women, the passenger thought to be in her 40s, was suffering from a reduced level of consciousness and crews quickly began treating her for a head injury. She was anaesthetised in order to stabilise her condition and immobilised before being airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.
“The driver, also believed to be in her 40s, was unconscious upon the arrival of crews and was trapped upside down for 20 minutes. After regaining consciousness she was treated for a head injury, immobilised and had pain relief administered before being taken to the same hospital by land ambulance.
“There were no patients from the second car.”
ENDS
My Husband and Son were following the two cars when this accident happened. They both helped the ladies to the best of their abilities and they wish both ladies all the very best with their recovery.
Hi Sam…thanks for your message. It’s always reassuring that there are still prepared to help others in their hour of need. I’m sure your husband and son did everything they could for which we are very grateful.
They both went off to bed quite heavy hearted tonight. I know they’d both like to know how the ladies are doing. If anyone knows, please
Sorry Sam, unfortunately, once we drop them off at hospital we have nothing further to do with them. All I can suggest is contact the police officer dealing with the case who may be prepared to give you some update – patient confidentiality may get in the way? Certainly worth an ask. Hope that helps.
Hi Sam, I’m the driver from the other car that was involved, hope you hubby and son are ok, I wish to thank them yet again for there help, I’m still awaiting to hear from the police regarding the two ladies in the other car, as soon as I know I will try and let you know
Hi Julie. Thankyou so much for that, I’ll pass that on. I know Keith and Chace would like to know how the ladies are doing. For a 14 yr old with slight learning difficulties, Chace certainly did us both very proud yesterday. His Dad was so impressed with him. I hope you and your other car occupants are all OK. X
Hi the police officer has contacted me by email late last night, the driver is stable condition, awake and talking, the passenger is stable but sedated at this time.
I have asked to be kept updated,
Hi Julie. Thanks for that. I’ll let them know. We too would love to be updated. X
