A motorcyclist and his pillion passenger have both been treated for numerous injuries and taken to one of the region’s major trauma centres following a road traffic collision in Coventry this afternoon.

Crews were told that neither of the men were wearing helmets at the time of the collision with a car and it is believed they both temporarily lost consciousness for a period of time.

Ambulance staff found both men lying in the road when they arrived at the scene of the crash in Ridgley Road, Tile Hill, having received a call to attend the incident just before 2.40pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man riding the motorbike, who is believed to be in his 20s, was treated by ambulance staff for a serious leg injury, a hand injury and a suspected pelvic injury.

“He was given pain relief and airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“His passenger, a man thought to be in his 50s, was treated for a leg injury, immobilised with the use of a neck collar and spinal board, given pain relief and taken to the same hospital by land ambulance.

“The car had suffered significant rear end damage and contained two patients, a woman and a young baby.

“They were both assessed but thankfully did not require any further treatment and were discharged on scene.

“West Midlands Ambulance Service urges all motorcyclists to ensure they wear the correct protective equipment whenever going out on their bikes, including boots, leathers, armour, gloves and a crash helmet.”

Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Air Ambulance rapid response vehicle attended the scene.
