Rapid response after crash outside fire station

Monday 15th February 2016 – 12.45pm – Murray MacGregor.

The drivers of two vehicles that had a crash had a very rapid response after colliding right outside a fire station.

It happened this morning outside the station in Knutton Lane in Newcastle under Lyme.

The crash, involving a small van and a car, happened at about 7.40am on Monday morning. Unsurprisingly, given the location, Staffordshire firefighters were first on scene, followed soon after by ambulance staff.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The initial call suggested the driver of the van, which had rear end damage, was initially unconscious.

“However, by the time the ambulance service rapid response vehicle arrived, six minutes after the 999 call, the man was fully conscious. An ambulance and paramedic area support officer were also sent to the scene.

“The man, who was in his 40s, was immobilised before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital complaining of back pain.

“The man driving the second car, which had front end damage, was in his 20s. After a check-up he was discharged on scene.”
