A cyclist who fell down a muddy embankment has been rescued by ambulance staff who had to utilise specialist equipment in order to do so.
The incident took place on the Monkey Trail on Cannock Chase, shortly before 9.40am and West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews responded to reports of a man, believed to be in his 50s, who had fallen whilst cyclist, coming to rest down a muddy embankment.
“Access to the patient was difficult with crews finding themselves ankle deep in mud at times whilst trying to access him.
“In order to get as close as possible they used a six wheel Polaris vehicle which was loaded with specialist equipment.
“Once with the man, a specialist rescue stretcher was used in order to bring the man to safety. He was then loaded on to the Polaris before being transported back to the ambulance.
“He received treatment for hip, pelvic and abdominal injuries and was given pain relief ahead of being taken to New Cross Hospital.”
