A pedestrian has suffered serious injuries and been taken to a major trauma centre after a crash with a car.

It happened near the junction of Coventry Road and Kings Road in the Yardley area of Birmingham at about 3.15pm on Monday afternoon.

An ambulance and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews found a woman who had ended up in the road and a car that had suffered damage to the windscreen.

“The woman, estimated to be in her 40s, had suffered a number of potentially serious injuries.

“After being assessed and treated at the scene, she was taken to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on blue lights with a request for a trauma team to be on standby.
