The outcome of a lorry overturning onto its side could have been very different if it hadn’t happened in the lane it did.
That was the view of ambulance staff who were called to the island by Tamworth Services at junction10 of the M42 at lunchtime today (Friday)
A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, a paramedic area support officer, the Hazardous Area Response Team and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were sent to the scene at just before 12.20pm.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “An HGV carrying a load of steel toppled onto its side as it went round the island.
“Fortunately it happened while the lorry was in ‘lane 3’, the closest to the middle of the island. The load landed harmlessly.
“The driver, a man estimated to be in his 40s, was initially trapped. Ambulance staff worked with firefighters to extricate the man who had suffered a deep laceration to his upper arm.
