A man has been airlfted after being struck by a train

A man has been airlifted with multiple injuries after he was hit by a train as he crossed a railway line.

The incident happened in Shropshire between Craven Arms and Ludlow.

An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a trauma doctor on board were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man, who was in his 40’s, was using a dirt track that crosses the railway line about three miles south of Craven Arms.

“He was found at the side of the railway line with multiple injuries but fully conscious.  The train had not stopped.

“He was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and the doctor before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

“On arrival he was thought to be in a serious but not life threatening condition.”
