Teenager injured in Handsworth RTC

A teenage boy was involved in a road traffic collision with a car in Handsworth last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the junction of Benson Road and Willes Road in Handsworth shortly before 6.30pm yesterday (Monday). An ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene and arrived within five minutes of the 999 call being made.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived they found a pedestrian, a 13-year-old boy, who had been involved in a collision with a car. Upon assessment, ambulance staff found he had sustained a suspected head injury and a serious leg injury in the collision. The boy was given pain relief to ease his discomfort and his leg was carefully immobilised with a vacuum splint before he was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
