We certainly do have a bunch of adrenaline junkies with us at West Midlands Ambulance Service and our latest fundraiser is no different.
Wirral PTS driver, John McDaid, has signed up for a double challenge though – a skydive and weight loss.
John said: “Since starting with the Trust in April, I’ve been moved by the number of patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, so I decided to do something for Alzheimer’s Society. My plan was to do something a bit different so here we are with the skydive!”
However, it’s not been quite as simple as that for John. There’s a weight limit for the skydive of 210lbs and, at the time of putting his name down, he needed to lose just over 4 stone!
John said: “I started a diet in June and, so far, I’ve lost 34lbs. I need to reach the target by 22nd September so there’s still a fair way to go yet but there’s nothing stopping me!
“I’m putting my dietary success so far down to snacking on chicken legs and sugar free jelly on every break for the last six weeks. Surprisingly, I’m not bored of chicken… just yet!
“I’m really looking forward to the day and, so far, I’m not feeling nervous at all. I would love to smash my target of £1500 for the charity and for my weight loss and with everyone’s help I truly think it will be possible.
“I would be extremely grateful for any donations and support.”
