Quality Account

The Government’s White Paper, “Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS” sets out how the improvement in quality and healthcare outcomes would be established as the primary purpose of all NHS-funded care.

To demonstrate this all NHS Trusts have to produce Quality Accounts which now represent a critical part of the overall quality improvement infrastructure of the NHS and are an important step forward in putting quality reporting on an equal footing with financial reporting as some parts of a Quality Account are mandatory and set out in regulations of the Health Act 2009.

Our Quality Account is now available to read and we welcome your feedback and comments.

The primary purpose of Quality Account is to spur boards and leaders of healthcare organisations to assess quality across the entire range of their healthcare services, with an eye to continuous quality improvement. It is not a compliance tool, rather a means to:-

  • Demonstrate the organisation’s commitment to continuous, evidence-based quality improvement across all services
  • Set out to patients where improvements will and need to be taken
  • Receive challenge and support from local scrutineers on what the organisation is trying to achieve, and
  • Be held to account by the public and local stakeholders for delivering quality improvements.

This year West Midlands Ambulance Service Quality Account sets out the expectations and provides an update on projects from the previous year Quality Account.

The WMAS Quality Projects aim to capture the three domains of quality which are:

  • Patient Safety
  • Patient Experience
  • Clinical Effectiveness
