A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after coming off his bike in Coventry yesterday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service received numerous calls, with the first at 5:15pm on Monday to reports a motorcyclist had come off their bike at the junction of the Coventry Ring Road and Sky Blue Way. The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care car attended the scene, along with one ambulance and a paramedic officer.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found the motorcyclist, a man, in a serious condition after coming off his bike.  Staff worked quickly to administer specialist trauma care on scene before conveying the patient to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.”

Three patients have been conveyed to hospital after a head on road traffic collision in Bedworth last night (Monday).

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 8:26pm to Heath Road to reports of a collision involving two cars. Three ambulances and one paramedic officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival, crews were presented with three patients, two of which had managed to self-extricate from their vehicles. The third patient, a woman who was the front passenger in one of the cars, was extricated by crews with the help of the fire service. She was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire on blue lights and sirens for further treatment.

“The drivers of both vehicles, a man and woman, were treated for minor injuries at the scene and also conveyed to UHCW in separate ambulances.”

Jordan Eggington – Thursday 9^th July 2020 – 12pm.

A paramedic, who was stabbed by a man she’d gone to help earlier this week, has now been discharged from hospital.

Paramedics Deena Evans and Michael Hipgrave were attending a 999 call on Stephens Close in Wolverhampton at about 12.20pm on Monday (6^th) when the incident took place.

The Trust is pleased to confirm that Deena was released from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) after suffering a knife wound to her chest. She is now continuing her recovery at home.

After being discharged from hospital earlier this week, Michael is also at home, as he tries to make a full recovery after suffering injuries to his back.

Both Deena and Michael are in good spirits as they recover from their ordeal.  West Midlands Ambulance Service continues to offer full support to both members of staff, as well as any colleagues who have been affected by this incident.

Two patients have been assessed, after a helicopter had to make an emergency landing in Warwickshire this lunchtime.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 12:19pm to reports of a helicopter on fire after making an emergency landing outside the Masons Arms in Long Marston. One ambulance, a senior paramedic officer and four paramedic officers attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance said: “On arrival, crews discovered the helicopter well ablaze.  There were two patients at the scene, who had managed to get out of the helicopter safely.

“Thankfully, they were uninjured in the incident and able to be discharged at the scene.”

Four people have been taken to hospital overnight after a single vehicle RTC in Walsall which saw a car hit a wall and land on its roof.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 1:17am this morning (Wednesday) to reports of a single vehicle collision on Lichfield Road in Shelfield. Three ambulances, two paramedic officers and a Critical Care car attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance said: “On arrival, crews were presented with four patients, all from the same vehicle.

“We treated a man, for potentially serious injuries before taking him to the Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham for further treatment.

“The other three occupants of the car were treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further assessment.”

Three kayakers have been assessed after getting into trouble down a canal in Staffordshire overnight.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 00:03am this morning (Thursday) by the fire service after reports a group of kayakers had gone down the Harecastle Tunnel in Kidsgrove and got stuck. One ambulance and two paramedic officers attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “On crews’ arrival, fire colleagues were already in the water on a boat to rescue the trapped kayakers. Three men were all safely recovered from the canal.

“The men were handed over to ambulance staff for assessment. None of the patients were believed to have been submerged in the water and were discharged at the scene.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service has worked with fire colleagues after a fire at a tower block in Birmingham in the early hours of this morning.

We were called at 2:08am (Thursday) by the fire service to Humber Tower in Francis Street. The Hazardous Area Response Team, two paramedic officers, a Tactical Commander, one ambulance and MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “On arrival, crews were informed that a fire had started on the 14^th floor of the 16-storey building, with fire colleagues working hard to evacuate residents and put out the blaze.

Once residents had been safely evacuated, ambulance crews assessed a total of eight patients who had suffered smoke inhalation. All were discharged at the scene and given advice to seek further medical advice if their condition worsens.”

A man has been treated for serious injuries and taken to hospital after a house fire in Staffordshire this morning (Wednesday).

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by colleagues from the fire service at 11:14am to a house fire at a property in Highfield Place, Biddulph. The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, a land ambulance, paramedic officer and BASICS doctor attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, in a serious condition.

“He was treated for multiple serious injuries by crews at the scene before being taken on blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke Hospital for further treatment. The air crew travelled with colleagues on the land ambulance to continue treatment on route to hospital.”

A man has died following a road traffic collision in Telford.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by police to an RTC involving a motorbike and road sign at the junction of the A442 and A4169 in the Brookside area at 1:48pm this afternoon (Monday).

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “We sent the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a BASICS doctor onboard, a land ambulance and paramedic officer to the scene.

“Upon arrival, crews found one man, who was the motorcyclist, in a critical condition. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A man has sadly died in a road traffic collision in Staffordshire earlier today.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports a motorcyclist had come off his bike in Cheltenham Avenue in Cheadle at 8:40am this morning (Thursday).

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a doctor on board attended, along with two land ambulances and a paramedic officer.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews found one man in a critical condition, with an off-duty paramedic already carrying out basic life support. Staff then took over and administered advanced life support on scene. But sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the motorcyclist and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A group of local community first responders have stepped in to ensure a vital lifeline for their community has been maintained.

Upon learning that the local pharmacy in Albrighton had lost the ability to deliver prescriptions because their driver was self-isolating, the Albrighton and Cosford CFR’s offered to provide a vital service to members of the public in their area delivering vital medications.

Initially they agreed to help three days a week but, after the first day, the team quickly doubled that service to six days a week without hesitation. They are now into week five and have delivered well over 1,000 prescriptions to around 600 homes in their local area; always adhering to social distancing guidelines to keep everyone safe.

Not only are the responders providing members of the public with medication and essentials when they cannot – they’ve quickly realised they are the only contact some people have during these difficult times. So, when they can, they stop to have a little chat with these members of the community from the driveway before moving on. 

Mahboob Ahmed at T.A Rhodes Chemist, said: “Without these guys we don’t know what we would have done, they have provided us with a vital lifeline to get the prescriptions to people who cannot or have no way of collecting them.   On top of this they are continuing to book on and respond when tasked by WMAS.”

Nick Henry, Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer in charge of community response, said: “Community First Responders are a hugely important resource for the Trust, playing a key role in responding to members of the public in their hour of need. The selflessness of our CFR’s never ceases to amaze me, and this is no exception. I’m sure their efforts are extremely appreciated by those vulnerable members of the community during these difficult times.”

Press release issued in conjunction with West Midlands Police – Tuesday 7th April – 5:00pm.

West Midlands Police have charged a man over a brutal attack on a West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic, that left our member of staff with a broken jaw.

It’s alleged Jamie Davies lashed out after calling ambulance crews to his home in Winifred Avenue, in the Earlsdon area of Coventry, on Sunday evening (5th April).

The 21-year-old was arrested yesterday and has now been charged with wounding, plus one count of dangerous driving as he’s accused of colliding with the ambulance as he drove from the scene.

Davies also faces charges of driving with no licence or insurance, and criminal damage in relation to an incident at a doctor’s surgery in Baliol Road, Coventry, on 31 March when a glass door pane was broken.

He is set to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court via video link later today (7th April).

West Midlands Ambulance Service Chief Executive, Anthony Marsh, said: “This was a horrendous assault on one of my staff.

“At a time when the NHS is under more pressure than at any time in its history, to lose an experienced paramedic from a cowardly act like this, is beggars belief.

“I am determined that we will work with police colleagues to bring anyone who attacks my staff to justice.”

The 40-year-old paramedic – who has worked with the Trust for more than six years – required surgery to insert a metal plate into his fractured jaw.

We’re pleased to say he is now out of hospital and recovering at home; although it’s expected to be a long road to recovery. He may be away from work for several months.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has attended a chemical incident at Corbett Hospital in Stourbridge today.

We were called by the fire service at 11:01am (Thursday) after a chemical spillage in a secure, temperature-controlled cabinet in the building.

Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “Crews have assessed 10 patients who were showing symptoms relating to the incident.  Following assessment, nine of them were able to be discharged at the scene.  The tenth patient, a woman, was taken to Russell’s Hall Hospital as a precaution.”

A motorcyclist has died after coming into collision with a wall in Wellesbourne yesterday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by police at 4:57pm (Wednesday) to reports a motorcyclist had crashed into a brick wall on the Charlecote bend of Stratford Road.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.  Upon arrival, crews found one patient, a man.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A child has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after a collision involving two cars in Oldbury last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the junction of Parsons Hill and Wolverhampton Road at 7:50pm on Thursday.  Four ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team and a Merit Trauma Doctor attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival, crews found multiple patients, one of which was in a critical condition.  Staff administered advanced trauma care to the girl, who was a passenger in one of the cars.  She was taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

“A woman and two other children in the same car were treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to hospital.

“There were four patients in the second car involved in the collision.  A woman in that vehicle was assessed and taken to hospital as a precaution.  A man and two children in the car were assessed and discharged at the scene.”

A man has died after a serious RTC in which a car collided with a tree in Hanbury yesterday afternoon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by the fire service to Goosehill Lane in Broughton Green at 2:56pm yesterday (Monday).  An ambulance, paramedic officer, Basics emergency doctor from Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS) and a Critical Care Car attended the scene. 

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Crews arrived to find a single vehicle collision near Goosehill Wood, involving one patient, a man, who was the driver.  He was in a critical condition.  Staff quickly worked to administer advanced life support on scene.  But unfortunately, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A woman has died following a road traffic collision in Leamington last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians at the junction of Rugby Road and Guys Cliffe Avenue at 7:35pm (Tuesday).

We sent three ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Crews arrived to find a man and a woman who’d been in a collision with a car; the woman was in a critical condition.

“Staff quickly administered advanced life support, but unfortunately despite their best efforts, she was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The second pedestrian, a man, was treated for injuries not thought to be serious. He was taken University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.

“The driver of the car, a man, was assessed at the scene and taken to Warwick Hospital.”

A man has died, and a woman has serious injuries after they were hit by a car in Wolverhampton during this morning’s commute.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two pedestrians and a car on Parkfield Road at 6:45am (Thursday).

We sent three ambulances, two MERIT trauma teams and two paramedic officers to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Upon arrival crews found two pedestrians who had been involved in a collision with a car. Bystanders on scene were already administering excellent first aid to both patients.

“One pedestrian, a man, was in a critical condition. Ambulance crews commenced advanced life support to him, but despite everyone’s best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was sadly confirmed dead a short time later at the scene.

“The second patient, a woman, was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.”

A driver has died after being involved in a two-car collision in Kidderminster last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 11:33pm on Wednesday to Spennells Valley Road.  Three ambulances, a paramedic officer and consultant paramedic attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found fire colleagues administering excellent first aid to a man in a serious condition; he was the driver of one of the cars.

“WMAS staff continued advanced life support on scene, but sadly, despite their best efforts, he was confirmed dead a short time later.

“A second man involved in the collision was assessed for minor injuries and discharged at the scene.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of an RTC involving a motorbike and lorry on Ravens Bank Drive in Beoley at 12:29am (Wednesday). We sent a Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car, two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival crews found one patient, a man, who was the motorbike rider with serious injuries. They administered advanced life support, but sadly despite their best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A man has died in a road traffic collision in Tenbury Wells yesterday afternoon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a two car RTC on Worcester Road in Burford near the Tenbury Show Ground at 3:08pm (Wednesday). Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a serious RTC involving two cars. One of the drivers, a man, was found in a critical condition. Ambulance staff worked as a team to administer advanced life support, but sadly, despite their best efforts nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the second car, a man, was treated on scene for minor injuries before being taken to Hereford General Hospital for further assessment.”
