A teenager has died and another has sustained life threatening injuries following a collision in Handsworth.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a tree on Grove Lane in Handsworth at 2.05am and sent four ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival crews found five occupants of the car.
“Firstly, a teenage male who was a passenger. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff it became clear that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“Secondly, a teenage male who was the driver who had sustained life threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.
“Three further teenage males who were passengers in the car were assessed by ambulance staff.
“Two had sustained serious injures which were not believed to be life-threatening and the third had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. They were conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”
