What is the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service?
As a non-emergency patient transport services (NEPTS) person, you may work as part of a crew or on your own and will be responsible for taking patients, with varying mobility and medical conditions, to and from their pre-arranged appointments. This could be in a Trust car, ambulance or wheelchair accessible vehicle. Some of our patients may need mobility assistance, or may need to be carried (including stairs), wheeled in a chair or a stretcher and escorted to and from the vehicle. The safe transportation of these patients is paramount to the role, including securing patients, wheelchairs, stretchers etc in the vehicles.
NEPTS staff are fully trained in basic first aid, manual handling, infection prevention and control, and driving with many staff receiving specialist bariatric training too.
Entry Requirements
- 3 GCSE’s grade C or above which must include English and Maths (or equivalent) or be willing to undertake a level 2 qualification whilst in post within the first 12 months of the role
- Experience of working within a public service / customer care environment
- Experience of driving a variety of vehicles
- Lifting and handling experience
- Full driving licence showing no more than three penalty points
- Medical clearance DVLA Group 2 standards
The Recruitment Process
If you meet the entry requirements, your application will be shortlisted and you will be invited to attend the below appointments:
- Interview: either face-to-face or online via MS Teams
- Online Highway Code Assessment – this is similar to your car theory test
- Practical Driving Assessment
Once all of the above have been successfully completed, we will make you an offer conditional to pre-employment checks, including reference history, occupational health checks and DBS checks.
